Kayak Build Day 1

Kayak Build Registration Deadline is Tuesday, March 22, 2022.  
 
All scouts from Troop 37 and Troop 201 who are interested in building a kayak should register for this event.  We may have to limit the number of registrants due to the limited number of adults who have volunteered to support the build.  Currently, we are limiting the build to the first 20 scouts who register and pay the $300 fee.  If more adults volunteer to support the build we will increase the number of scouts who can participate.

This is the first half day for the new scouts to build their kayaks. They cut out the center of the spreaders, round the paddle blades, round the ends of all runners and sand the ends of the poles. At the end of the event, the scouts take home all their lumber

** SCOUTS who want to build a Kayak must register for Kayak Build Day 1 (no need to register for Kayak Build Day 2, though both days required to participate and build).  Each scout needs to bring an adult to work with the them on each of the Build Days, however the adult should not register.

This is a great event for new Scouts (and incoming Scouts are strongly encouraged to build in their first year), but it is open to any Scout wanting to build a kayak (or another kayak).

Also, we need some adults who are not building Kayaks with their scouts, but would like to assist Kayak build planning and help on the actual days. If can help, please register for the Kayak Kut (separate event 4/2/22)

Although materials may have gone up in price this year we will be holding the cost to $300.  This covers all the lumber, canvas, glue and hardware.  You’ll only need to provide the Bondo filler, paint (details will be provided during the build), and a few other minor items.  We’ll provide more information as we go along and you’ll be helped through the whole process.  We haven’t had a kayak not float yet!

Kayak Kut — April 2 (Saturday), 2022  10:00pm-2:00pm (or until we’re finished).  This is an Adult Only Event.  It is optional for new parents (please email me if you’d like to sign-up/participate).
Kayak Build Day 1 — April 24 (Sunday), 2022  1:30am -5:30pm  —   Both Scout and Adult are required for the entire time.
Kayak Build Day 2 — May 7 (Saturday), 2022  8:30am-5:30pm  — Both Scout and Adult are required for the entire time.
Kayak Float and Picnic —  May 21 (Saturday), 2022  12 noon-?:00pm (provisional) — Final touches, and paddle away ….

This is a really great event to get adults and their Scouts together, and a memory (normally a good one) that everyone keeps for many years to come.  You don’t need to be planning on coming to Kayak Camp to build a kayak.

Please sign up and pay as soon as you can.  The hardest thing about organizing this is getting the numbers correct so that we buy the right amount of material.
