Black Mountain Backpacking (Philmont Prep)

We got the permit to camp at Black Mountain Friday, June 21 with a max of 24 people (adults and scouts T37 and T201 combined).

The campsite has a restroom.

This is an opportunity for the younger scouts to do meal planning.
We will hike 2 miles into the campsite.
Next morning we will have breakfast and hike down 8 miles.
All scouts please bring at least one liter of drinking water for the hike down to Rancho San Antonio the next morning.
The parents will drop off the participants on June 21 in the dark, and the scouts hike about 2 miles to the campsite location overlooking Silicon Valley.

In the morning the scouts cook breakfast using the troop’s gas stoves and then they hike about 8 miles downhill to Rancho San Antonio where the parents pick them up. Each participant would need a backpack.  The trip also provides an opportunity for the younger scouts to learn maps and compasses.
