SUMMARY:Florida SeaBase 2022
DESCRIPTION:Are you a certified SCUBA diver?  Would you like to SCUBA dive in the Florida Keys for Spring Break this year?  If so\, this trip is for you!!!\n\nWe will be going to the Boy Scout’s Florida Sea Base High Adventure camp for the week of Friday\, April 8\, 2022 until Sunday\, April 16\, 2022 for a Live Aboard SCUBA diving trip.  While our first two nights and our last night will be on land in the Sea Base dorms\, we will spend the remainder of the trip living aboard a boat as we sail and dive throughout the Florida Keys.  Over the course of our week on the water\, we hope to do some 15 SCUBA dives\, including three or four night dives.  In between dives\, we will do a little sailing and a little fishing as we cruise through the Florida Keys.  To make the logistics of this all work\, we will need to extend our week of spring break a day\, leaving Los Altos on Friday\, April 8.\n\nAs this is a trip for hard-core divers\, all participants must be open water SCUBA certified at a minimum.  While there are a number of local places that offer SCUBA certification\, I can recommend Scuba Fusion in San Mateo (http://scubafusion.com/) and Diver Dan’s in Santa Clara (https://www.diverdans.com/).  The minimum age requirement to attend the Florida Sea Base is 13 years old and in the 8th grade\, or fourteen years old.  Our crew size is capped at 12 persons.\n\nAll participants (Adult and Scout)\, need to submit the full BSA Medical form with the Sea Base option by December 1\, 2021.   Because Florida Sea Base has pretty severe restrictions for people with asthma or taking medications (including for ADHD)\, it requires that we provide our medical forms well in advance of the trip to avoid any surprises.\n\nWhile pricing details remain to be worked out\, our final cost should be ~$2\,250 per person. $500/person is required now\, with the balance due December 1.  The entire cost is non-refundable.  If you back out\, you have to find a replacement or pay the entire cost as our pricing is dependent on our having 12 persons on our crew.\n\nTentative Itinerary:\n\nFriday\, April 8\, 2022; Depart San Francisco airport (SFO) at 9:35am and fly to Fort Lauderdale.  Once in Fort Lauderdale\, we will take a shuttle to the Florida Sea Base\, which is a two and a half hour drive away.  We will eat dinner in the Miami area on the way down.\n\nSaturday\, April 9\, 2022:  After breakfast and lunch at Florida Sea Base\, our adventure will begin at 1:00pm\, as we will take swim tests\, get our SCUBA gear\, have a SCUBA review\, meet our boat crew\, etc.\n\nSunday\, April 10\, 2022:  Depart Sea Base in our boat for our week long Live Aboard SCUBA adventure.\n\nSaturday\, April 16\, 2022:  Return to Sea Base; show off our Aloha-wear and limbo skills at the Luau that night.\n\nSunday\, April 17\, 2022:  After breakfast at Sea Base\, we will go on an airboat tour of the Everglades and then grab lunch and return to Fort Lauderdale for our 7:15pm flight back to San Francisco\, arriving at SFO at 10:49pm.  We will eat dinner in the airport.\n\nYou can get more details about Florida Sea Base and our trip here:  https://www.bsaseabase.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/2021-Scuba-Participant-Guide-Feb23.pdf\nhere:  https://www.bsaseabase.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/2022-Informational-Brochure-vf.pdf\nand here:  http://www.bsaseabase.org/\n
